Fall has arrived and with it brings additional clothing. Please, please, please write your child's first name, last name or initials in their clothing. We've already had a couple mishaps with identical Bethke sweatshirts.

Here are a couple tricks that will help your child with their spelling words or with their writing.
because - Big Elephants Can Always Use Scrambled Eggs each letter of the phrase spells the word should/would/could - Old Uncle Larry Dance Should old Uncle Larry dance? Could old Uncle Larry dance? Would old Uncle Larry dance? there/their/they're their - has an I for possession. "Their is my backpack." there - rhymes with where. Where is the backpack? It is over there. they're - they are Last Friday I introduced "Read to Someone" to the students. Read to Someone is a great opportunity for students to grow as both readers and teachers. As the students "Read to Someone" they will:
*take turns reading *help each other read *stay in one place *build stamina *read with a soft whisper voice *sit EEKK -- ask your child *read the whole time
This year we are teamed up with Mrs. Rossi's 5th graders for Book Buddies. We met today to see who our book buddies are. The students did a short interview with their book buddies to find out what they are interested in. We will see them again on Friday when they help us complete a scavenger hunt with the 50 states. I've posted a few pictures of today under photos.
This summer I became addicted to couponing after watching Extreme Couponing on TLC. I now get several emails from different couponers telling me about great deals as well as emails and offers from companies whose products I (and my family) use. This morning I received an offer for a free book with the purchase of two Kellogg's products from Walmart. Here is the link with more information:

Oct 5th Volleyball 3:30-4:15 @ The Edge When students are reading to self they should be:
*reading the whole time *reading with a quiet voice *staying in one spot *building their stamina *having a bubble around their body Here is what we look like when we "Read to Self": On Back to School Night you heard me talk about teaching the students to find "good fit books". Good fit books are books students are interested in and at their reading level for comprehension and accuracy. In order to help teach them about finding good fit books, I start with the shoe activity. We talked about every shoe having a purpose but even when shoes fit the purpose they still have to fit our feet. I brought in some shoes from the people in my household to help teach this lesson and some of us got to try on shoes. |
